Rooftop Bars & Bangkok After Dark
Bangkok does the sundowner better than almost anywhere: an elevator sixty-something floors up, the heat finally breaking, and the whole city lighting up below. Here are the landmark rooftops and the cocktail bars worth crossing town for. The craft scene is genuinely world-class: eight Bangkok bars made Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026, three of them in the top seven.
The Ones I Keep Going Back To
Not a ranking, just the short list I send friends to first.
A Drink in the Sky
Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026
Twelve Bangkok bars made the 2026 lists, more than any other city. They cluster in five walkable pockets, so a good night usually means picking one pocket rather than crossing town. Eleven are pinned on the map below.
Hushed and genteel, in the heritage mansion beside W Bangkok: high ceilings, deep chairs, service that never rushes.
Golden-era glamour by the Chao Phraya, Buenos Aires by way of Bangkok, with a long marble bar and a live pianist.
A dark hidden room above the restaurant Potong, themed on the building’s opium-den past: intimate, moody, Chinatown meets old New York.
Two fused shophouses on Soi Nana: stained glass, graffitied stone, a live pianist, and oyster and uni martinis served with a bite.
A courtyard jazz bar at the Anantara Siam, greenery and a koi pond, the most relaxed room on the list.
Just as good a night, and usually easier to get into.
The Convent Road classic off Silom, on the ranking every year since it began in 2016. Impeccable classics and Italian aperitivo.
Playful, pastel and full of oddities, like a secret clubhouse. It moved venues recently, so check the link before you set off: this is the one bar with no pin.
One Thai ingredient per drink, above the nose-to-tail kitchen 100 Mahaseth. Order bar snacks from downstairs.
A softly lit jazz bar at the Sindhorn Kempinski, whimsical drinks, a terrace and a cigar room.
Five pockets, each an easy walk or one short ride end to end.
G.O.D and Opium sit ten minutes apart around Soi Nana and Yaowarat, with Tep Bar in between. Start at nine, finish late, no taxi needed.
Vesper on Convent Road, Bar Sathorn in its mansion, Mahaniyom off Si Phraya. All three are short hops on the BTS Silom Line.
BKK Social Club at the Four Seasons and The Bamboo Bar at the Mandarin Oriental are a five-minute walk apart. Arrive by Chao Phraya boat.
Lennon’s, Aqua Bar and Firefly all sit within about half a mile of Ratchadamri, so one taxi covers a three-bar night.
Bar Us on Soi 26 and Dry Wave in Thonglor are four BTS stops apart, the easiest pairing if you are staying east.
Most of these rooms open around 6pm and fill after 9pm. Hotel bars add 17% tax and service, and the independents take cash or card alike.
No bar outside Bangkok has cracked the Asia list yet, but the national ranking reaches north and south. The Chiang Mai pair sits on the Chiang Mai guide, and the island winners on the Phuket and Koh Samui guides.
Drag, Dancing, and Silom After Dark
The Soi 2 and Soi 4 bars, cabaret theaters, queer women’s nights, and how Bangkok Pride week works now live in their own guide.
A Good Night out, Without the Surprises
A few small things keep a rooftop evening smooth, from what to wear to how the bill adds up.
Smart casual at the high-rise bars: no shorts, sleeveless shirts, or flip-flops for men. Lebua is strictest, so closed shoes are safest.
Arrive about 45 minutes before sunset for a railing seat. The best rooftops fill fast after 7pm, especially Friday to Sunday.
From June to October, an afternoon storm can close an open deck with no warning. Check the forecast and keep an indoor back-up in mind.
Drinks are a splurge, often 350 baht and up, with 17% tax and service usually added. Some rooftops charge a cover or a minimum spend.
For lebua and the riverside bars, take the BTS to Saphan Taksin and hop the Chao Phraya boat: you skip the river-road traffic and the ride is half the fun. Many cocktail bars take same-day bookings only by Instagram or LINE, so a local SIM makes the evening much easier.
